In 21st century Western societies, property and possessions seem to mean less than they did a few years ago. But what about in countries where socialism prevailed, which were completely privatized in the 1990s? Are there parallels between the common property of socialism and today’s sharing economy? According to social scientist Ivars Ijabs any form of sharing is also a form of community building.
