The Kultursymposium Weimar brings together more than one hundred artists, activists, and entrepreneurs from more than 40 countries. Many of them come with ideas that are as yet largely unknown in Germany. This includes, for example, the alternative currency “Torekes,” which was introduced as a local currency in one of the poorest areas of Flanders to reward residents’ voluntary work. Or the Greek bartering platform “Trade Now,” which has gained enormous popularity over the last few years of crisis. Or the project “unMonastery,” through which the London-based artist Ben Vickers seeks to harness the resources of medieval monasticism for today’s economy. “Sharing Ideas” spotlights ideas for sharing and exchanging from all over the world in entertaining, 10-minute multimedia presentations designed to spark a lively exchange.
