Polarization is on the rise not only in our country, but in our own communities and classrooms. Polarized environments make people more reluctant to speak up when they disagree, more likely to give (and take) offense, and less likely to understand and empathize with others. Luckily, positive psychology can help! The creators of OpenMind will share two concrete tactics you can use to depolarize your classroom or community; tactics that are based in familiar psychological concepts: growth mindset and cognitive reappraisal. How does developing a growth mindset and reappraising your initial thoughts lead to fewer arguments and more constructive conversations? How can you teach these skills in a way that really sticks? Come find out! Speaker Recommended Resources: OpenMind (www.openmindplatform.org) Civil Politics (www.civilpolitics.org)
