Almost a year ago, the robot Sophia was granted citizenship by Saudi Arabia a month after an AI bot Shibuya Mirai got permanent residency in Tokyo. This also took place in the same year as European Parliament began to consider introducing a special status of the electronic person for the most sophisticated robots. We are obviously near a breaking point in our perception of AI. However, what does this anthropomorphization of AI mean for lawyers and is it a step in the right direction?
