In 1927, a sound was added to movies, altering forever the way an audience could relate to cinematic characters. CAVE takes this to the next level, placing audience members inside the cinematic universe together, replacing the screen with an entire shared immersive world. Can mixed and virtual reality move beyond niche markets to be experienced by millions, or billions, of people? Why is mixed reality still so isolating, and how can it reach the mainstream the way cinema has in the past century? The NYU Future Reality Lab is tackling these questions, leading the charge in creating mixed reality entertainment experiences for dozens of audience members at a time, co-located in the same space.
By creating Future Port Prague together with our visionary partners, we want to help people and businesses in our region better understand this phenomenon; not just the technology, but the deeper societal changes that will require a rethinking and rewiring of our business models and environments, our education systems, and most importantly our own mindsets.
