Building human-level AI is a long-standing challenge for generations of scientists. In this talk, I will discuss why we need to diversify the research efforts to speed up the research progress. To give an example, I will present some recent advancements in the development of complex systems that can evolve indefinitely in interesting ways, and explain how this might be related to open-ended AI that could develop without strong supervision.
