In her current role, Emily develops initiatives that support and strengthen student community, with a specific focus in diversity, equity and inclusion. She helped the leadership of the University of Chicago chapter of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in STEM (SACNAS) rebuild their programs and launch the now annual SACNAS Midwest Symposium, which happens every spring. She also serves as the administrative lead for the Graduate Recruitment Initiative Team (GRIT) and the Women in Graduate Science (WinGS), both of which focus on improving the climate for all members of the STEM community at the University of Chicago. She holds a Ph.D. in Commmunication from the University of Illinois in Chicago and spends her free time eating as much Korean food as possible
