Jean-Pierre Bekolo, born 1966, is one of Cameroon’s most noted filmmakers. He majored in film and film theory in Paris under Christian Metz. He has taught film at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Duke University and elsewhere. In 1992, Bekolo’s debut film "Quartier Mozart" was awarded the Prix Afrique en Création in Cannes. Along with works by Scorsese, Godard and Bertolucci, his second film, “Aristotle’s Plot,” was one of 10 films commissioned by the British Film Institute to mark the occasion of 100 years of film history. “Les Saignantes” celebrated its world premiere in 2005 in Toronto and was awarded the Silver Stallion at the FESPACO film festival in 2007. Bekolo’s most recent film is "Le Président" (2013).
