Mark Bayer is President of Bayer Strategic Consulting (BSC), a unique advocacy training firm helping scientists and engineers master insider techniques for making their voices heard by policymakers and other influential stakeholders. As Chief of Staff in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives during 20 years on Capitol Hill, Mark worked on the front lines of some of the biggest policy battles in Congress, including Obamacare and homeland security after 9/11. This year, Mark has been keynote speaker for UNC-Chapel Hill's symposium on research communications, chief advocacy trainer for March for Science's first-ever Hill Day, and discussion leader at the 2018 AAAS annual conference, among other engagements. Touted in Politico by his former boss, Senator Ed Markey, for his “decades of superlative experience”, Mark’s work has appeared in Science and The New Yorker. Mark graduated from Cornell and received a Master of Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
