Olaf Carlson-Wee is the founder of Polychain Capital, which manages the world’s premier blockchain asset hedge fund. Polychain has $15 million under management including investment from Andreessen Horowitz and Union Square Ventures, among others. Olaf is the also the former Head of Risk at Coinbase, the largest digital asset exchange in the United States, where he was hired as the first employee. During his three year tenure at Coinbase, Olaf built a 40 person operations team and designed fraud prevention and account security mechanisms protecting billions of dollars in transactional value occurring in over 30 countries. He received a civilian award from Homeland Security for technical analysis of the blockchain in a $10,000,000 cyber crime case and has a patent pending for the Bitcoin Host Computer System, a multi-authorization bitcoin storage mechanism. He received a BA from Vassar College after completing his thesis on distributed networking and financial cryptography.
