Paul Arthur Berkman

Paul Berkman is a researcher in the NSF–funded Program on Governance for Sustainable Development at the Bren School. His formal training is in biological oceanography, with an interdisciplinary focus on Earth system science, policy, and education. He has an additional specialty in digital libraries, with a focus on knowledge management and discovery applications. He has served as chair of the Sustainability Standing Committee for the National Science Digital Library program. In 1999, he implemented the first integrated digital library of Antarctic policy documents, a project that continues to evolve. Dr. Berkman received a Fulbright scholarship in 2007 to plan and coordinate the Antarctic Treaty Summit, to be held in Washington, D.C., in 2009 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Antarctic Treaty.
