Sabine Tebbich studied zoology at the University of Vienna. For her dissertation, she studied the use of tools in the woodpecker finch in the Galapagos Islands, where she has since conducted numerous behavioral science studies. Between 2000 and 2008, she held post-doc positions at the Max Planck Institute for Behavioral Physiology in Seewiesen, at Cambridge University, and at St. Andrews University (UK). Since her habilitation in 2012, Tebbich has been senior lecturer at the Department of Behavioral Biology at the University of Vienna. Her research focuses on the evolution of intelligence in animals, especially in birds. She has received numerous fellowships and was awarded the Niko Tinbergen Prize in 2004 and the Focus of Excellence Award of the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Vienna in 2009.
