Tom Froese

Dr. Tom Froese is a faculty member of the Instituto de Investigaciones en Matemáticas Aplicadas y en Sistemas (IIMAS) of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) since 2014. Since 2012 he has also been a member of the Centro de Ciencias de la Complejidad, which is also based at UNAM. In 2004 Froese received a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Cybernetics from the University of Reading, UK. He then obtained a Doctorate degree in Cognitive Science from the University of Sussex, UK (2010). He continued as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Sackler Centre for Consciousness Science, also at the University of Sussex. Froese then became a JSPS postdoctoral research fellow at the Ikegami Laboratory of the Department of General Systems Studies, University of Tokyo, Japan (2010–2012). Subsequently he was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Instituto de Investigaciones en Matemáticas Aplicadas y en Sistemas, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Mexico (2012-2014). Froese has published widely on embodied and enactive theories of the dynamics and phenomenology of life, mind, and sociality. Currently he is working on applying the concepts of enactive cognitive science to gain a better understanding of the human mind and its complexities.
