Cervical neck pain, a common affliction often resulting from poor posture, stress, or injury, can severely impact one’s quality of life. Yoga, known for its holistic approach to wellness, offers an array of poses that specifically target the neck and upper spine, providing relief and promoting overall spinal health. One of the fundamental poses is the Cat-Cow Pose (Marjaryasana-Bitilasana), which involves a fluid movement between two positions that stretch and strengthen the neck and spine. Starting on all fours with wrists aligned under the shoulders and knees under the hips, you transition between rounding your back (Cat Pose) and arching it (Cow Pose). This motion helps to improve flexibility, reduce stiffness, and alleviate tension in the cervical region. Another highly beneficial pose is the Child’s Pose (Balasana), which provides a gentle stretch for the neck and shoulders while promoting relaxation. To perform this pose, kneel on the floor with your big toes touching and knees apart, then sit back on your heels and extend your arms forward, resting your forehead on the mat. This position helps to release built-up stress and tension in the neck muscles.
