Dynamical Systems and Ramsey Theory

By "Ramsey theory" I mean the inevitable appearances of certain substructures in large structures. "Dynamical systems" in this talk will be topological dynamics and ergodic theory. During the last 40 years there has been a very fruitful interaction between these disciplines. I will describe some of the early history - including "Ramsey theorems" that predate Ramsey, and give a glimpse of recent developments.
